A cold and windy day on the water can be a disaster without the proper gear. When planning a trip around the globe or to a nearby destination, it is important to pack and take waterproof and breathable outerwear and to dress in layers that move the moisture away from the body. If fishing in the rain, add a layer. Sweating from that long hike in? Remove a layer. Dressing in this way will keep you in your comfort zone and on the water fishing.

The most overlooked layer is the outer layer and it is just as important as the one closest to the skin. There are several things to look for - the outer layer must be breathable, wicking the moisture to the outside. It must also be designed for active movement so it does not bind up when casting, functional with enough pockets to carry your necessary gear and of a length that does not touch the water.
